The Crow's Dream

Philosophy, geekery, and the meaning if life, and what I read this week…

Marvel Comics has released a cool new digital service that enables subscribers to read over 2700 comic books online. Marvel online goes beyond digitalizing its media. The comics are easy to read in three different views, including a “smart panel” view, which allows you to surf though each individual panel without losing track of their order. The other view lets you see the whole page, one at a time. You can also see two pages at once. What’s cool about the last two views, is that you can use a magnifier class to make dialog balloons easy to read.

The selection is good, but not impressive, however, Marvel says that they will add new comic books every week, so the promise of more to come makes the service enticing.

You cannot download the comics, so you have to have an internet connection in order to see them. As an alternative, Marvell has released some nifty DVDs containing entire collections of digital comics, such as Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four.

This is a  great thing for those wishing to catch up with the ongoing Marvel saga, or for those of us wishing to relive our childhoods.
